S/S Mariefred's 100s Anniversary

Saturday may 24, 2003 Ejdern, as usual, visited the Steams Day (Ångans dag) in Mariefred. But this year it was a very special occasion; steam ship Mariefred (Maja) celebrated her 100s Anniversary. This ship is very unique since she has trafficked the same route, Stockholm – Mariefred, every summer since she was built.
S/s Mariefred was escorted all the way from Stockholm by s/s Blidösund and during the journey she was celebrated at all jetties she called at. When she approached Mariefred on the Gripsholm bay she was met by us with Ejdern and by s/s Östa, s/s Örnen, s/s Tärnan, s/s Frithiof and s/s Gärda. All in all eight steam ships formed a steam ship cortège in towards the steam ship jetty in Mariefred, with musical accompaniment from "Cellos" calliope (steam organ). S/s Mariefred was welcomed with a salute of gunshots and a brass band played, a festive occasion!
The celebration continued all day, at the jetty and in the towncenter, and was wound up with a big firework when all the ships left the jetty for the journey home. A very successful event!
Happy birthday Maja!!
