Ejdern´s third century!
Ejdern has made it over turns of centuries, how about a third one? For how long will our old steamer last?
There shouldn't really be any limit says Åke Persson, as long as we can repair what's wearing out, and the old fashion spare parts we need are not complicated, they will be possible to make even in the future. Ejdern is practically the same way she was in 1916, due to crew to 1957 as they didn't earn enough to keep her ship shape and they were old as well, all three of them.
That we are grateful of today, of course, as being this old-fashioned she is able to gather keen people around her. The boiler (1943) is the next big thing, a new expensive one will be necessary to build in the years to come, though we hope not too soon. The recruiting of skippers might be hard in the future, due to new harder regulations and that will affect all steamers. New modern rescue rafts will be a must next spring already. It would be sad if too harsh regulations, and not the conditions of the ship itself, would stop us from keeping her going this third century...
